Wharf to Wharf Race Recap- Santa Cruz to Capitola, CA

On Sunday, July 28, 2013 I ran the Wharf to Wharf Race which is 6 miles and goes from Santa Cruz to Capitola, CA.  I had ran it last year and thought it was a lot of fun, so I signed up again.  This race is kind of an institution.  It’s capped at 15,000 runners and sells out within 2 days.  There is no medal, just a “finishers shirt” that you get after you cross the finish line.

I was wearing my awesome INKnBURN Sakura pants and Sugar Skull tank.  I had so many compliments on my clothes, one women after we crossed the finish line came up and patted me on the back and said she loved my shirt and paced herself by chasing my shirt.

This is me AFTER the race 🙂

There is a guy that plays a real trumpet to get the race started every year.  You start right in front of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

There are tons of bands that set up in driveways of houses and parking lots all 6 miles.

People stand on their decks and squirt you with hoses when you run past.

I love races that take me along the coast.  The weather was great in the high 50’s and foggy.  Perfect running weather.  One of my best friends, April, even came out to cheer me on.  She was around mile 5.5 and I managed to snag a picture as I ran past her.

In the stroller is her 1 year old Olivia. That is a great friend who gets up early with a 1 year old to come cheer you on.

I ran between a 9:00-9:20 min pace the whole time.  I am pretty happy with that.

And here is my finisher’s shirt.  Pardon the wrinkles, it was in a bag.

I had a great time and I will most likely be back again next year.  Next up, I’m running the Esprit De She 5k in Palo Alto tomorrow night (Thursday August 1) and than on Sunday I am running The Giant Race Half Marathon, put on by the San Francisco Giants.  Should be fun!

If you feel up to giving me a little support I am currently in the running for the Top 25 Mom Bloggers in NorCal and would appreciate your vote.  You don’t have to register to vote.  You can vote once a day until August 14.  All you have to do is click here on this link and than click on “vote”.  Thank you so much!  I love doing what I do and love sharing it with you.

Do you love coastal races as much as I do?
