10 Things to do Disney World Marathon WeekendRunning at Disney World is serious goals. It is filled with magical miles. Disney World Marathon weekend is always in January and features 4 race distances and 2 “challenges”. There is a 5k, 10k, half marathon and full marathon all on consecutive days. If you sign up for the Goofy Challenge that means you run the half marathon Saturday and the full marathon Sunday. The Dopey Challenge is the Goofy Challenge, plus you also run the 5k Thursday and the 10k Friday. If you are heading to Disney World for a race, you won’t want to miss these “must-dos”. Here are 10 things to do Disney World Marathon Weekend!

  1. Eat a Dole Whip– It brings good luck (and good carbs) to a race weekend!
  2. Thank A Volunteer– We wouldn’t be able to run without them and the hard work they do. ESPN Wide World of Sports
  3. Shop the Expo– There is SO much running related merchandise to look at. Pretty much anything you can think of is for sale there.
  4. Take a Kilimanjaro Safari– It is a good way to get off your feet for a little bit and enjoy the ride while viewing so many amazing animals. 
  5. Grab a Couple of Your Friends and Go Eat a Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream– This ice cream parlor and restaurant is at the Beach Club Resort and the Kitchen Sink is a massive sundae that comes in a little sink. Here is what’s in it: 
    • ½ cup fudge topping, warmed
    • ½ cup butterscotch topping, warmed
    • ½ cup peanut butter topping, warmed
    • 1 medium banana, sliced in 1/2 –inch slices
    • 1 cinnamon spice cupcake (2 ½ x 1 ¼-inch), quartered
    • 1 angel food cupcake (3 x 1 ½-inch), quartered
    • 2 4-oz. scoops vanilla ice cream
    • 2 4-oz. scoops chocolate ice cream
    • 2 4-oz. scoops strawberry ice cream
    • 1 4-oz. scoop mint chocolate chip ice cream
    • 1 4-oz. scoop coffee ice cream
    • 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
    • ¼ cup marshmallow crème
    • ¼ cup strawberry topping
    • ¼ cup pineapple topping
    • 1 14-oz can dairy whipped topping
    • 1 brownie (6-inch x 6-inch), quartered
    • 1 regular-sized (2 ounce) candy bar, quartered
    • 4 chocolate cookies with cream filling
    • 1 tablespoon sliced toasted almonds
    • 1 tablespoon dark and white chocolate shavings
    • 1 tablespoon chocolate cookies with cream filling, crushed
    • 1 tablespoon chopped jellied orange slices (approximately 2 large slices)
    • 1 tablespoon milk chocolate chip morsels
    • 1 tablespoon peanut butter chip morsels
    • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles
    • 1 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles
    • ½ cup drained maraschino cherries
  6. Ride Expedition Everest While Running the Marathon– If you get to Animal Kingdom at the right time, not too early and not too late, you can hop on Expedition Everest for a spin on the coaster!riding Expedition Everest roller coaster
  7. Catch a Show– It’s a great way to rest your feet and maybe even do something new to you. Some suggestions are “Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Show” at Hollywood Studios or “Festival of the Lion King”  at Animal Kingdom. 
  8. Take a Medal Selfie in all 4 Parks– Take your medal (or medals) to the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom, the Castle at Magic Kingdom, Star Wars Land at Hollywood Studios, and Spaceship Earth at Epcot. Or pick other landmarks fo your choice.
  9. Make a new Friend– I have made a lot of good friends through runDisney race weekends. Connect online, in the corrals, or waiting in line for an attraction. 
  10. Remember to Enjoy It– The early mornings, crowds, and running to be exhausting, sometimes frustrating, but remember to enjoy the accomplishment and all the fun that you have instead of dwelling on any negative. You are amazing for toeing that starting line and don’t let anything make you doubt that.
