The San Francisco Giants Half Marathon is far and away one of my favorite “local” races. Even if I didn’t live close I would travel to this race. I have ran the Giant Race for the last 3 years. The race is always super well organized and the finish line is ON THE FIELD at AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants.
I lived roughly 45 minutes away from AT&T Park, so I still consider this race local. They offer a 5k, 10k, half marathon and kids events. The 10k and half marathon both start at 7am. The 5k and family events don’t start until 10am.
I made a cape to wear to help me fly to the finish line and paired it with my INKnBURN Skeleton capris.
The course is partly loop with a few miles being an out and back.
You start right outside AT&T Park and run down the Embacadero.
We pass the Bay Bridge.
The Ferry Building.
Fisherman’s Wharf
Ghirardelli Square.
The turn around spot is in Chrissy Field right near the base of the Golden Gate Bridge.
I got photobombed and she didn’t even know it. Haha
You can see Alcatraz out in the Bay.
And the city skyline.
It is San Francisco, so the course does have a few hills, but for the most part the course is decently flat.
I’m not sure what I did differently in this race than any of my other races, but from about mile 10 on I had a horrible side stitch problem. It was super painful. I walked a couple times to dig my fingers around my ribs and try to massage and stretch it out while breathing deep. That would only help for a minute of two though. I was very happy when I could see the stadium.
BEST. FINISH LINE. EVER.

A post race viewing of the World Series trophies?!?!? Yes please!
My sister was suppose to do the 10k, but broke her foot and is still in a boot. She came to cheer me on still though.
I recommend the Giant Race race to anyone thinking about it. It is my favorite San Francisco race and in my top 3 Bay Area races.
Have you ran the Giant Race?

This was my first year running it and I loved it! I struggled a little bit with pains near the end, but the important thing is that I finished!
I actually flew in from Kansas City for it. I was born in San Jose and still have family living in the Bay Area, so my girlfriend and I flew in, stayed with my sister, ran the race, and left the following day! My very first half marathon and I am looking to train harder and run more :). If you want, check my blog and I did a little write up about it!

Glad you had fun!! The trophies were hiding under the big Coke bottle slide in that area. I had to hunt for them too 🙂

Definitely want to try this one next year . Thanks for the recap! I think that has sealed the deal. Do you remember what month registration opens?
Half Crazy Mama | 13th Sep 14
I believe registration opened in April, but not entirely positive. I didn’t register until early June though. It doesn’t sell out super fast like some other races. 🙂
