14 weeks ago I had major surgery. You can read about that here if you don’t follow along regularly and want to know more. After getting cleared by my surgeon to “gradually” start increasing exercise I have been doing just that. I have ran several 5ks and a 10k. This weekend marks my first half marathon back though. My family and I are heading to Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego.
I was hesitant to share that I would be running this because of the fear of failure. I didn’t want to say I was running my first half marathon back and then not be able to finish it. You know what I decided though? I decided that is a horrible way to think about it. Of course I will finish it, and if not that’s ok too. The best part though is that my friend is running her first half marathon ever with me at the race, so we will take it easy and run/walk together.
Being afraid to share because of failure isn’t how greatness happens. Greatness comes from sharing about your journey and helping to inspire others and if you fall down in the process you get back up and try again. So now I am shouting it from the rooftops, I AM RUNNING THE 5K AND HALF MARATHON AT ROCK ‘N’ ROLL SAN DIEGO THIS WEEKEND! Remix challenge medal, here I come!!!
Through the many ups and downs the past 14 weeks have brought me I held tight to the notion that I will get back to my old self and this is one step in the right direction.
