Mudderella NorCal Recap

I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Mudderella. I received complimentary admission to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

FullSizeRenderI enlisted 3 friends to run Mudderella NorCal with me, Chanel, April, and Brie. Now, let me start by saying that they workout, but are not regular runners. They did some training and it was fun to get text messages with their Run Keeper updates. They were all very brave to embark on this journey with me.  I was a little nervous that if they ended up not having fun they would hate me for it, but I am happy to report they kicked serious muddy butt! The Mudderella motto is “Own Your Strong” and we definitely did! The location was about an hour away from where we live.  We all drove up together.  The bib picket was super easy.  FYI, if you want to check a bag though it is $10.  I couldn’t run with my car keys, for mud reasons, so I had to pay to check a bag with my keys in it.  They only take cash, so make sure you plan accordingly.

Our wave started at 9:30.  The waves went off every 15 minutes.  The course itself was a little over 5 miles with 11 obstacles.   This isn’t just a normal everyday style race.  It isn’t timed.  It was definitely a full day athletic event.  Mudderella challenges all-round strength, balance, endurance and agility in a team environment.  Different Mudderella locations will sometimes have different obstacles.  The first obstacle we came to was giving a team member a piggy back ride.  Some others included plank walking across a ditch, crawling under wire, 2 different wall climbs, crawling under a net…backwards, a foam tunnel, and climbing across tire swings.

This picture doesn’t do the ditch justice. It was about 5 feet deep. You definitely didn’t want to fall in it.

The craziest one though was the slide at the very end.  We climbed up this huge cargo net to the very top and when I looked down I immediately wanted to climb back down.  I am not normally afraid of things, but this was intimating.  They make you slide down so quick though that there isn’t much time to hesitate.  Had I sat up there longer I totally would’ve chickened out.  You speed down this slide, flying off the end and plunge into a very deep muddy water hole.  It was so deep and I came down with such force that I was completely submerged in it.  I swam to the side and we all got out and looked at each other a little stunned.  I’m glad I didn’t chicken out because it was quite an experience.

IMG_2880That big swim washed a lot of the mud off of us, so when we finished we didn’t look super muddy.

IMG_2879We had a great time.  At the end you get a finishers headband and a beer.  Yes!  On the way home all 3 of them were talking about what other events or races we could do together.  It was a great way to spend a Saturday with friends.  I definitely recommend getting a group of your best girlfriends together and running Mudderella.  Here are their other 2015 locations:

That slide looks like so much fun! Glad to hear your non-running friends had a great time. I’m doing the insane inflatable 5k next month with my non-running friends and this gives me hope that they’ll enjoy themselves as well!
