Back in July when registration opened for the Tinker Bell 10k I talked my sister into running it with me. She is not a runner, but loves Disney. I knew she would have fun if I could get her to feel confident enough to start.
The race started at 6:00am Saturday morning. There was 4 corrals total. I was in A and my sister was assigned to B, so I of course started with my sister in B. We dressed as the evil stepsisters from Cinderella which was a ton of fun because we could make funny faces in all the pictures.
There was no fireworks to start the race which I thought was unusual for a runDisney race.
The course was a lot of fun with the first 4 miles in the parks. Some of the characters out were unusual. When we passed the haunted mansion and these ladies were there. The line was very long, so we didn’t wait, but I snapped this pic.
We found Mary Poppins and Bert in Fantasyland. I love them, so we stopped for that picture.
We had to stop for a picture in front of the Castle. NO runDisney race is complete without that.
This gal was out by Buzz Lightyear. This costume is in the Pixar Parade and I always joke about I want one for a running costume, so I made my sister take my picture with her.
We headed out of Disneyland and over to California Adventure. The World of Color fountains were on.
We ran around Paradise Pier and through Cars Land. I love the little tractor.
The last characters before we exited the parks was the crew from Monsters University.
The last 2 miles were around the streets near Disneyland. After mile 5 my sister’s pace totally picked up because she couldn’t believe we were almost done.
Here is our finish line selfie:
We collected our fancy new race bling 🙂
My cousin Amy also ran the 10k and a big congrats to her for her first 10k that she ran the WHOLE thing. Yay Amy!!!
I am SO proud of my sister! She now wants to run the Disneyland 10k with me over Labor Day. I would also like to add that my sister learned an important lesson about good socks. I told her she needed good socks and she wore the more “economical” kind of socks and ended up with a huge blister on the bottom of both feet.
Here is a closeup of our shiny new medal.
I had a GREAT time at the race. It always amazes me though how much longer the lines are for characters at the 5 and 10k races than the half marathons. The lines for pictures in this race I thought were quite long.
Did you run the Tinker Bell 10k?

Always so happy to hear when a new runner is born! What a fun race for her first. My favorite part is when she asked you to run another run with her….blisters and all!

The fact that she was so eager to do another one made my heart happy 🙂

[…] Mary Poppins. I followed that up by immediately running at Disneyland the next week. I paced my sister to finish her first 10k and I ran the Tinker Bell Half myself. We headed back to Disney World for Princess weekend. […]
