If you follow along you know I’m a huge fan of books. I love reading. I thought I would put together a list of great books for runners. Some are written by runners, some are training plans, some are motivational, and some are great cookbooks for athletes. Learning is so important when it comes to doing anything in life and marathon training is no exception. You should learn what your body goes through, why you are sore, how you should fuel, and be knowledgable. These are great books for runners and they are all about running or will help you train.
This is by Deena Kastor, an amazing woman and an Olympic bronze medal winner in the marathon. She is very inspiring and hearing her story is so motivational.
I feel like I don’t need to explain this one. 😂
This is a book by Meb Keflezighi. You are probably familiar with him because he is huge in the running community. Meb is very inspiring and has accomplished so much in the running world.
This cookbook is by professional runner Shalane Flanagan and chef Elyse Kopecky. Lots of delicious recipes that are great for training and getting in shape. I love this cookbook and I have friends, who workout, but not runners, and love it too. Great recipes for good flavor and are healthy.
This is a book of training plans by Hal Higdon and a great place to start. Hal has written for Runner’s World longer than any other writer. He knows his stuff.
Part of being successful is being accountable. Logging your runs can help you stay motivated and find better success. This book is a great place to do that.
Fueling your body with the right food is so crucial when you are trying to train and get in better shape. A cookbook with delicious recipes is definitely what you need.
This book is by Kara Goucher, who is well known in the running community and I admire very much. She is vocal in standing up for what’s right in professional running circles.
This book is all about endurance. It examines endurance and how it can be stretched. It takes into account science and real life stories.
Reading can help you learn about your body and maybe save you from injury and pain. There are so many other great books too. Even a book own anatomy and how our leg muscles work would be great to read also. Your journey will be so much better if you find the right balance and these books can help you do that. Don’t just put in the time physically, put in the time mentally too and I promise you will have much better results.
