Fun Facts About Disneyland

Since many of us are preparing to go to Disneyland for The D23 Expo, The Disneyland Half Marathon weekend or for a family vacation I thought it would be fun to share some fun facts about Disneyland.

    • Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel has 948 rooms and 50 DVC Villas.
    • Refreshment Corner, better known as Coke Corner on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland Park sells enough hot dogs in one year to circle Disneyland 36 times.
    • Napa Rose at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa offers a selection of nearly 70 wines by the glass from and a list of more than 450 wines and a 16,000-bottle wine cellar.
    • Blue Bayou restaurant in New Orleans Square competes for the most wedding proposals with the Wishing Well near the castle.
    • Guests eat 14,000 bowls a year of the Charred Nebraska Corn Chowder at Storyteller’s Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa.
    • Since 1955, the Disneyland Resort has welcomed more than 600 million guests.
    • On opening day July 17, 1955, Disneyland had 18 major attractions including the Mad Tea Party, the Jungle Cruise, Autopia and the Mark Twain Riverboat, and it featured five themed lands: Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Frontierland and Main Street, U.S.A.
    • Approximately 50 certified scuba divers work on the Disneyland Resort Facilities team, which maintain attractions like World of Color, Fantasmic and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage.
    • Today Disneyland has more than 60 adventures and attractions in eight themed lands. New Orleans Square was added in 1966, Critter Country (originally Bear County) in 1972 and Mickey’s Toontown in 1993.
    • California Adventure opened in 2001.
    • Disneyland has roughly 25,000 cast members.
    • The Matterhorn Bobsleds opened in 1959.
    • More than 800 species of plants, native to 40 different countries, grow at Disneyland Resort.
    • More than 30 different languages are spoken among Disneyland Resort cast membersGuest parking for approximately 10,000 vehicles is available in the Mickey & Friends parking structure, which opened June 27, 2000. At that time, it was the largest parking structure in North America.
    • Mickey and Friends Parking structure was the largest parking structure in North America when it opened in June of 2000.  It has parking for roughly 10,000 vehicles.
    • More than 5,000 gallons of paint are used each year to give Disneyland a better-than-new look.
    • Disneyland uses 1,000 brooms, 500 dust pans and 3,000 mops a year to keep it clean. Approximately 30 tons of trash are collected during a busy park day. Custodial works collect 12 million pounds of trash each year.
    • Disneyland Resort recycles an estimated amounts  4.1 million pounds of cardboard; 1.3 million pounds of green waste, 370,000 pounds of office paper, 361,260 pounds of glass bottles, 274,280 pounds of plastic bottles and 17,240 pounds of aluminum cans each year.
    • In 1 year guests buy an estimated 3 million hamburgers, 2 million hot dogs, 6.5 million orders of french fries, 1.6 million servings of popcorn, 3.2 million servings of ice cream, 1.9 million gallons of soft drinks and 2.8 million churros and the Disneyland Resort.
    • The Disneyland Band has logged more than 3,500 marching miles and more than 90,000 performances since opening day in 1955 and draws from a repertoire of more than 400 musical numbers.
