Elsa and Anna Doll Cakes- DIY

For my daughter’s 5th birthday she wanted Elsa and Anna cakes.  I said ok and called the bakery I normally use.  They said it would be $135 a cake!  That would be $270 for both!  So of course I immediately thought “I can totally make them myself”…and I did.

Amazon had everything I needed to make the cakes.   Wilton’s Buttercream Icing Mix, food coloring, 8 Inch round cake pans, and I bought the Annaand Elsa Dolls from Amazon too.

I baked 6 layers for each cake, total of 12 layers.  This was the most time consuming part because my over could only cook 2 at a time.

Stack the layers, putting Buttercream between each one. Wrap the legs of the doll in plastic wrap, so the doll doesn’t get ruined.  Place the doll in the center of the stack.  Put the cake in the refrigerator to cool and solidify before you carve.

Doll_In_cakeUse the sharpest bread knife you have and start carving off little pieces to make the skirt shape.  Think of it wanting to look like a bell.

Next, brush off all the lose crumbs and frost with a base layer of Buttercream.  Place in refrigerator for about 30 min.

Anna_Elsa_CakeAfter all this is done you now want to frost with the color skirt you want.  Make blue frosting for Anna and aqua for Elsa.  You can use a Angled Icing Spatula and Icing Smoother (click on links to see what I am talking about) to smooth the frosting and throughly coat the cake.

Decorate as desired.  Voila!
