If you runDisney, or if are planning to, you know running costumes are part of the fun. This doesn’t just go for Disney races though, Bay to Breakers, Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, and many other races are fun with costumes! Making a running costume doesn’t have to be hard. With a little help from my new Cricut Explore Air 2 I was able to make this super cute Ariel, the Little Mermaid, running costume.
First, find yourself a purple tank top, I found this one on Amazon.
Next I set up my Cricut Explore Air 2. Don’t have a Cricut, but looking to get one? You can check them out here. Cricut recently sent me my new Cricut Explore Air 2 as well as lots of fun materials and tools. I was worried the machine would be complicated to use, but it is really easy! It is VERY user friendly, so don’t be afraid to jump right in.
I also LOVE the Cricut Design app. It helps me be creative in a super “easy to use” way. The app is really user friendly and I am able to bring the creations I have in my head to life.
On the Cricut Design app I created what I wanted in 4 minutes, no joke. It is that quick! I started with a blank canvas on the app. I searched the Cricut library of images for “seashell” and picked the one I liked.
I decided I wanted to use the Cricut Holographic Iron-On as my material.
I loaded the holographic iron-on material on the mat and sent my design from the app to my Cricut Explore Air 2 and started the process. FYI, this design didn’t really matter if I did a mirror image or not, but if you are doing words are something that needs to face the right way, be sure to select mirror image on the app so it cuts it out the right way for an iron-on. (I think we have all made this mistake before.)
After my Cricut Explore Air 2 finished cutting out the seashells, I weeded the design. (Weeding is a term that means to pull off all the excess that isn’t part of the design, so you can iron it on correctly.)
Next, I got my tank top ready to press the design on. Cricut also sent me a Cricut Easy Press 2. I have the 9×9 model and it is the perfect size. It makes ironing on the designs REALLY easy. I heated my Easy Press 2 to 290 degrees and then pressed my seashell design onto my tank for 30 seconds and then moved the press and did another 30 seconds. The Easy Press 2 even has a timer so you know how long you have been pressing.
Voila! It is really that easy. The finished project is immediately ready to wear. No drying time to worry about. It is the perfect tool to help make a running costume quickly. It doesn’t even involve sewing!
I found these mermaid leggings on Amazon to go with my custom tank top and I am ready to run as Ariel!
When you put the whole look together you have a really fun Little Mermaid costume that is easy to run in and can totally double as this year’s Halloween costume too!
If you want to create this tank top, here is the link to my seashell design in the Cricut Design app.
I can’t wait to share more with you about what I am creating with my Cricut Explore Air 2.
