I know most of us like to know about how many calories we are burning, so I thought I would compile a list of some activities and approximate calories burn. These numbers are estimates and of course vary based on your weight and how hard you are pushing yourself. The more you weigh, the more calories you will burn (sorry ladies, but true).
These numbers are based on doing the activity for 1 hour:
Spin class 550-800 calories
Barre class 350-500 calories
Swimming laps 400-600 calories
Hatha Yoga 160-200 calories
Ashtanga Yoga (or Power Yoga) 325-390 calories
Bikram or Hot Yoga 440-500 calories
Vinyasa Yoga (Flow Yoga) 550-650 calories
Golfing (carrying clubs) 290-330 calories
Walking (2 mph) 180-220 calories
Walking (3.5 mph) 290-335 calories
Running (5 mph) 500-600 calories
Running (8 mph) 800-950 calories

I read that, regardless of pace, you burn approximately 100 calories/mile. That seems to jive, more or less, with the above?

If you are slowly walking a mile you won’t burn as many calories as running at full pace, but as a rule of them that is pretty accurate. The more you weigh the more you burn too. 100 calories is on a lighter woman side and on up from there 🙂
