Being busy seems to be a popular trend these days. Many adults are trying hard to juggle parenthood, career, and life all the while having a desire to eat healthier. It’s not easy to eat healthier when you’re living a busy lifestyle. There are ways to start developing better eating habits no matter how busy you are and today I’m going to share a few of these tips to get you headed in the right direction to achieve your goals of eating healthier.
Do Not Skip Breakfast
While you may not be up for eating a full course breakfast every day, there are many smoothie options and overnight oats recipes that make breakfast easier and lighter. Unless intermittent fasting something you have tried and works well, a light breakfast is a great way to help curb afternoon craving or binges. A smoothie or overnight oats in a mason jar are two breakfast options that you can bring along with you and eat on the drive to work or while you’re sitting at your desk. One part of eating healthier is to maintain a proper level of nutrients in your body throughout the day, that’s why it’s important to make sure your meals are spread out.
Make it Easier
One way to ensure that you eat healthier no matter how busy you are is that you make the process to access healthier foods easier. This could be heading to your local farmers market and getting some cucumbers or fresh fruits to have near your desk at all times. This allows you to munch on healthy food throughout your workday, no matter how busy and focused on work you. Think of healthy food options that are able to stay at room temperature and leave them near your work desk and in your vehicle for quick access in between your busy schedule. Meal prep snacks at home, so when you are hungry you can reach for some cut up veggies instead of chips.
Prepare the Night Before
In order to fully commit to eating healthier no matter how busy you are, it’s important that you prepare the night before. Get your meals and snacks ready for your next day in the evening before the day arrives. This will help make access to healthy foods easier, and reduce the chances of you heading to fast food to grab something quick to eat during your busy day. There are many healthy food options you can prepare ahead of time to make sure you eat healthier every day. Some of my favorites are:
- Hummus and Veggies
- Berries and Greek Yogurt
- Salad w/dressing on the side (great to prepare the night before)
- Celery and Peanut Butter
- Poached Salmon cooked the night before and served cold with veggies or on salad
- Grilled chicken lettuce wraps
I know you hear this over and over, but don’t beat yourself up for eating a special treat every now and then. Moderation is key with all healthy eating. This will also help keep you on track. If you are too strict with yourself you are more likely to fall off the healthy eating wagon in a big way.
These are just a few of the tips to eat healthier no matter how busy you are. Eating healthier doesn’t have to be a complicated process, it’s really as simple as preparing, making access to healthier foods easy, and being focused on your mission to only consume healthier snacks, meals and other food options. Do you have favorite ideas on meal prepping or healthy snacking?
