The bowl games are always my favorite part of the college football season.  There is so much excitement around them and a great excuse to get together with friends.  I live 10 minutes away from Levi’s Stadium and it is such a great stadium to for games.  I am so excited that the Foster Farms Bowl will be this close to me. The Arizona Wildcats will be playing the Purdue Boilermakers and it should be a great bowl game!  Having friends over, cooking some delicious game day food, and watching the teams battle it out is a big part of December and January tradition.

A simple game day snack is to make sandwiches on big rolls and cut them in quarters.  This way they are more bitesize and people can take several different combinations.  Some of my favorites are Foster Farms Deli Turkey and swiss or Foster Farms Chicken and cheddar.

On my menu for the Foster Farms Bowl is my homemade Turkey Chili that everyone LOVES.  It is perfect for game days.  This turkey chili has become a favorite of everyone that has tried it. I now have people requesting I cook it for gatherings. It is so easy and your home will smell so good as it cooks all day. I use extra lean (99% fat free) ground turkey for the healthiest option. You can use just lean ground turkey if you like, but be sure to drain the meat after cooking before you add it to the slow cooker otherwise it will thin the chili. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs extra lean ground turkey breast
  • 1 yellow onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cans tomato sauce
  • 2 cans kidney beans (rinsed and drained)
  • 2-3 tsps chili powder
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • ¾ tsp dried basil leaves
  • ¾ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsps ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ tsp onion salt

Preparation

  1. Saute the ground turkey and chopped onion, along with the chopped garlic until turkey is cooked.
  2. Put cooked turkey mix into slow cooker.
  3. Add all the rest of the ingredients and stir.
  4. Cook on low in the slow cooker for 8 hours
  5. Top with whatever anyone wants like chopped onion, sour cream, cheese, or just enjoy by itself.

Any finger foods are great for me. I like things that can be eaten while I watch the game. You can’t do that with a chili dog. Chicken strips or mozzerella sticks are perfect.
