This was my second time running the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Francisco Half Marathon and let me tell you, this course doesn’t get any easier. Wowzers! It is opposite of flat, but so beautiful!
You get so many great views on this course that it makes all the hills worthwhile. Within the first mile you learn very quickly that this course isn’t going to be flat. I wouldn’t think people expect to come to San Francisco and get a perfectly flat course though right? The starting line is down near the ocean. It can be a bit chilly.
Once we started running we made our way through some hills. There is a cute little Haight & Ashbury themed photo area around mile 2ish.
Next up, save some energy for the beast of a hill during mile 3. It feels like it just keeps going and going…because it pretty much does. Once we got to the top though we had a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
We made our way down to the Golden Gate Bridge and we got to run across it. This is always a highlight. A lot of San Francisco races don’t get to do this.
On the other side you turn around at the Vista Point lookout and head back over the bridge. I LOVED the view of seeing all the runners on the bridge.
We made it back to the San Francisco side and around mile 10 while running through Crissy Field area we had a pretty shot of the whole bridge.
We ran through the Marina district and had a great view of Alcatraz.
The course takes us from the bay up and over some hills (quite a few) before we drop down to the finish line at Civic Center. It was a tough course, but so pretty. I had a great time. I ran part of it with Jindy from Flowers Croon and that makes the hills a lot more tolerable 😉
The finish line party and band are right in front of City Hall.
