2,000 less entries for runDisney WDW Marathon Weekend half and maybe the full?

I have heard that there will be 2,000 less entries for WDW Marathon weekend half and possibly full?  If this is true that means runDisney has heard our cries.  Do you think 2,000 less people will make a difference?  This last year I was in corral B and I still had to walk at parts because it was soooo crowded.  I couldn’t imagine how bad it got by corral D or after!  I feel that 2,000 can definitely make a difference.  Also new this year, stricter proof of time requirements.  Proof of time is required if you think you will complete the half marathon in less than 3:15 and the full in less than 6:30.  There will be no corral changes at the expo, so you MUST submit proof of time prior to November for a corral change. Here is the guidelines that was on rundisney.com:

New 2014 runDisney proof of time guidelines:

If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon in less than 3:15 hours or the Marathon in less than 6:30 hours, proof of time is required for start corral placement. Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge and Dopey Challenge participants should adhere to Full Marathon proof of time requirements. Please reference the Race Pacing Chart below for finish times and associated pacing per mile.

AProof of time must be provided from a certified race reflecting results after January 1, 2012.

  • Half Marathon – 10K or longer
  • Full Marathon – 10 Miles or longer

A valid proof of time provided at the time of registration must include the following*:

  • Name of Race
  • Distance
  • City
  • State
  • Date
  • Finish time

*For example, Walt Disney World Marathon, 26.2, Orlando, FL, 1/13/13, – 3:35

If you do not have a proof of time to submit, list “N/A” at the point of registration. If proof of time is not provided by November 1, 2013 you will be placed in the last start corral. If your proof of time data is incomplete or cannot be verified, you will be placed in the last start corral. To provide or update your proof of time, you must email all proof of time data requested above to disneysports@trackshack.com. No corral changes will be made after November 1, 2013.

As a reminder, you will no longer be able to bring proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booth during the Expo and have your start corral placement changed.

Are you happy about lowering the amount or race entries and the new stricter proof of time requirements?

I haven’t been to a RunDisney race before. Dopey will be my first. I just signed up. I did run the Chicago Hot Chocolate 15k in 2012. Holy Moly what a mess! 45,000 people for a 9.3 mile race…Some races are getting too congested and when it’s to the point of forcing people to walk, that’s bad. I will run/walk the 5k with my dad in 2014 but we’re going to start in the last corral, plus we want to get photos with cast members. I think 2,000 less people will help.

Yes, I agree. They are also adding more corral to help spread runners out more which I think will help too. Good luck and have fun!
