10 Disney World Travel Tips

Planning a trip to Walt Disney World can be daunting. There is so much to do at the Florida resort that you would need weeks to accomplish everything. Here are my top 10 tips on planning a trip to Disney World.

1. Plan Ahead: Disney World is a massive resort with four theme parks, two water parks, and numerous hotels. Planning your itinerary in advance can help you make the most of your time. Research attractions, dining options, and entertainment to prioritize what you want to experience. There are Deluxe, Moderate and Budget friendly hotels that all offer different theming and transportation options.
2. Use Disney Genie+: Disney Genie+ is a paid service that offers lightning lane access to certain attractions. Utilizing these services can help you maximize your time in the parks. This service is similar to what the FastPass service use to be. The difference is that you have to pay for this service and you book your next Lightening Lane attraction on their app. There rules are similar though like you can book the next one 2 hours after you booked your last one, or if you used it before those 2 hours.
3. Download the My Disney Experience App: This app is your key companion during your Disney World visit. It allows you to check wait times, manage Genie+ selections (if available), make dining reservations, view interactive maps, look at your PhotoPass photos, mobile oder food and more.
4. Arrive Early: Arriving at the parks before they officially open can give you a head start on popular attractions with shorter wait times. Consider taking advantage of Extra Magic Hours if you’re staying at a Disney resort, or simply arrive early to beat the crowds.
5. Stay Hydrated and Take Breaks: Florida’s weather can be hot and humid, especially during the summer months. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Take breaks in shaded areas or indoor attractions to cool off and recharge.
6. Wear Comfortable Clothing and Shoes: You’ll be doing a lot of walking at Disney World, so wearing comfortable clothing and supportive footwear is essential. Consider dressing in layers that you can easily remove if it gets too hot. My tip is to make sure to bring more than one pair of shoes. On water rides, or because it is Florida and sudden rain storms happen, your shoes might get wet and because Florida is very humid they don’t dry quickly. Having a second pair of shoes can allow you to wear dry shoes the next day.
7. Make Dining Reservations in Advance: Disney World offers a wide range of dining options, many of which fill up quickly, especially during peak times. Make dining reservations as far in advance as possible to secure your preferred restaurants and dining times. You can make dining reservations 60 days in advance. If you don’t get the location you wanted, keep checking as you get closer to your vacation dates because many people cancel opening up dining reservation times.
8. Take Advantage of Mobile Ordering: Skip the lines at quick-service restaurants by using Disney’s mobile ordering feature. Place your order through the My Disney Experience app and pick it up at the designated location when it’s ready. This option can save lots of time. Not all quick service locations offer mobile ordering, but many do.
9. Stay for Nighttime Entertainment: Disney World comes alive at night with spectacular fireworks shows, parades, and other nighttime entertainment. Plan to stay late to experience these magical experiences. If you need to go back to the hotel room and for a nap midday that is a good option to be able to make it late at night.
10. Be Flexible and Have Fun: Despite careful planning, things may not always go as expected. Stay flexible and be prepared to adapt your plans as needed. Most importantly, enjoy the magic of Disney World and create unforgettable memories with your family and friends.
