I live in Northern California, but Disneyland has been my home away from home, my happy place…my laughin’ place.
When I talk to people about both Disneyland and Walt Disney World the most common question is “Do you have any restaurants or food items that you recommend” I thought I would put together a quick and easy list of my favorites. Here is Disneyland’s list. Stay tuned tomorrow for Walt Disney World’s list.
From Disneyland Park:
Frozen apple juice at Edelweiss Snacks- It is a walk up small snack stop by the entrance for the Matterhorn. If you were to take Martinelli’s apple juice and turn it into a slurpee you would get this. It is so yummy, especially on a hot day.
Turkey Leg sold at multiple carts and quick service locations- A huge turkey leg packed full of flavor. You may look like a Flintstone walking around eating this, but it is delicious, filling, and surprisingly portable.
Dole Whip- it is a fluffy soft serve pineapple sorbet, this is the best way to describe it. Soooo good, even if you aren’t a huge pineapple person. It isn’t overwhelmingly pineapple. It is sold at the entrance to the Tiki Room.
Chicken skewer at Bengal BBQ- The sauce on the chicken is like a sweet and sour BBQ sauce. Bengal BBQ is a walk up counter service BBQ skewer location across from the jungle cruise. The bacon wrapped asparagus skewer is also very good.
Fried chicken from the Plaza Inn- Some of my favorite fried chicken in the world. Moist and delicious.
From California Adventure Park:
Short rib ravioli from Carthay Circle Restaurant- very rich, but very good. It is a great flavor combo. This is a sit down table service restaurant. Make reservations far in advance.
Freshly made caramel corn- This deliciousness is served at the popcorn cart that is located on the walkway between Soarin and Grizzly River Rapids. It is amazing and is still warm when you get it. Tip: get the souvenir bucket that has a lid and you can enjoy it over the next couple days 🙂
Chili con queso served in a bread cone from Cozy Cones-This is located in Cars Land and I was a little skeptical at first, but when I tried it it was very yummy. It is definitely gooey in a guilty pleasure sort of way.
Anything with hot fudge from Ghiradelli Soda Fountain- located where the tortilla factory used to be in the back of Pacific Wharf section. They also give you a Ghiradelli chocolate square sample as you walk in. Can’t go wrong with free chocolate 🙂
From Downtown Disney:
Beignets from Jazz Kitchen Express Downtown Disney- fried dough hot and covered in powdered sugar. No need for more explanation.
From Grand Californian Hotel:
Napa Rose is the finest of dining at Disneyland. Anything here is delicious, but these are some of my favs that are always on the menu.
Signature Pizzetta with “La Quercia” Smoked American Prosciutto, Red Flame Grapes, Caramelized Onions, & Cambozola Cheese. The combo of sweet and salty on this pizza is delicious. I love the bite that the cambozola cheese adds.
“Smiling Tiger Salad” – Tempura Fried Lobster, Spicy Beef, Asian Greens and Coconut-Lime Vinaigrette. It is perfectly spicy and amazing.
Another tip about Napa Rose: If my husband and I get alone time we will make a reservation to eat dinner in the dining room. Since it is fine dining and my daughter just turned 3 we don’t bring her to that nice of a meal yet, BUT the lounge is first come first serve and we have brought her in there many times. It is set up with cozier chairs and a fire place. It is mellow and you can get these items in the lounge area. There are many families in the lounge area. It is still a quiet environment so keep that in mind and just plan accordingly.
Storytellers Cafe Charred Nebraska Corn Chowder with Rotisserie Chicken, Bacon, and Cilantro- It is one of the signature items and it is very delicious. It is also available from room service at the Grand Californian.
As far as character dining goes my hands down favorites would be Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel and the princess lunch at Ariel’s Grotto. The food is good at both as well as the ambience. The character breakfast at the Plaza Inn would be my runner up.
This is my short list of my favorite eats at Disneyland Resort. Obviously I also love Mickey ice cream sandwiches and soft pretzels and churros etc. This is my list of the items that a non-Disneyland regular might not know about or find on their own. Stay tuned tomorrow for my Walt Disney World list.
